I've been indulging in a little mood reading lately. I have a stack of books about 3 feet high waiting for my attention, but rather than begin the next in the pile I've been wandering through my personal library picking up old favorites.
I have never had a problem re-reading a book. But then I can watch a movie countless times, too. My husband is one of a large group of people who think "re-watching" and "re-reading" make me absolutely insane, but if an old book can create a new smile on my face I have NO problem keeping it around and visiting it again and again.
I think most people will admit to having movies that they'll watch (and enjoy) over and over. Everyone has their own. Here are a few of mine: Some Kind of Wonderful, Sixteen Candles, Beaches, Willow (I know, I know...to each his own, I say), Disturbia, Pride and Prejudice, etc. Which one I throw in the dvd player depends upon the mood I'm in (or want to be in)!
It's the same with reading. I've got books I pick up when I feel like laughing. I've got books I pick up when I need a good cry. I've got books I pick up when I want to think about certain people. I've got books I pick up when I need to be reminded that my world is not the center of THE world. I've got books I pick up when I need to be reminded that "happily ever after" is worth the now.
If you've never attempted to use a book to alter or enhance your mood you should give it a try. I've even stumbled upon a few popular bibliotherapy books in my time that offer some sound recommendations. If you are having trouble getting started, pick one of them up so you can get moving. Mood reading is WAY cheaper than therapy.
